Riso Comic is creating comic fanzines as a student community since 2020 under the roof of Dokuz Eylül University Fine Art Faculty in İzmir, Turkey. It all started when our university decided to purchase a Riso Printer for a project. Alp İz, who is a student in Illustration and Printmaking department, along with friends, decided to use this opportunity to create a series of comics which will be printed using Risograph technique first created in Japan. With love for experimental printmaking and comics, Riso Comic grew as a community and included work from students from diverse departments. After publishing a 10 part fanzine series, Riso Comic Extended was born. Which included new artists from the Grafik Topluluğu (Graphic Community) Student Club. And then, artists Alp İz and Nermin Yağmur Erman came together to create a spin off series, using the Riso Comic name and technique, named “Dishing Out”. This was not the only spin off project in the Riso Comic Fanzine Group, as brothers Kaan Gül and Hakan Gül explored using the manga style with Risograph techniques in “Yolumdaki Işık”. Riso Comic is still creating as a free fanzine group which everyone with a love for printmaking and storytelling can participate in.

Riso Comic was a fanzine that gathered people who wanted to tell stories. It was printed with the Risography printing technique. It came out weekly and lasted for a semester. It aimed to spread a collaborative work culture, emphasizing the value of producing together. At the end of 10 issues, it collected all the issues in a package called Compilation Pack. Riso Comic Documentary was prepared for this package. It tells our adventure. You can watch it from the YouTube link at the end of the page.
